Big Art Update for The Liberty Brigade
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 22, 2019 at 08:30:15 PM

As I’ve said, art is pouring in as both Barry and Ron move into the final stretch. Barry just finished a great run on Doctor Strange and is now full-time on The Liberty Brigade as he moves to the final pages of his section. I’ve enclosed a panel from a page Barry sent to inker Mick Gray yesterday. Also, Ron Frenz is down to his last few pages and here is a nice panel that Joe Rubinstein just finished inks on featuring Air Male and Stampy, two of the great Golden Age heroes now forgotten. Garrie Gastonny has finished work on the Encyclopedia and I attach the opening panel of the last page. Next up is colorist Chris Ivy who just finished coloring The Origin of The Marksman featuring stellar work by Alan Patrick. And, last is a page from the free bonus .pdf story by David Quay.

Major Update
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Jul 02, 2019 at 10:48:31 PM

Thank you all for your amazing support of The Liberty Brigade and thank you for your patience as we work to bring this amazing graphic novel to light. I wanted to give everyone a status update on where things stand with he book:

1) Liberty Brigade Zero – complete, printed and ready to ship with everything else.

2) Liberty Brigade: Heroes of the Golden Age Encylcopedia – we added original art from Chuck Patton to all three of our original characters. Two of the panels need to be colored and then this book goes to the printer. Again, the delay is because we wanted our supporters to get the best possible product and we realized that every other entry had some panels showing off the character from their Golden Age stories SO we went out and commissions Justice League artist Chuck Patton to create some panels for us. Below is one of the panels featuring The Bill of Rights. This book heads to the printer next week.

3) Liberty Brigade – The Villains Origin book – All of the origins are with our editor for comments after which we do any edits and then this book will ship to the printer. We also added a 1 page prologue and 1 page epilogue that ties these origins to the actual story in the Graphic Novel. Garrie Gastonny who drew our Zero issue is drawing them now. Yes, this means we added pages to the Villains origin for all of you. I’ve attached the prelim for the epilogue so you can see that page. This will head to the printer in the next two weeks.

4) The “Sorry This Is Taking So Long” free pdf comic for all of you – art from that is pouring in and we have designed a special PHOTO cover which is attached.

5) Jim Steranko cover – I talked to Jim last night and will post up the image later today. We are also working on trying to find an amazing 3-D, die-cut printer to do a special die-cut poster in a highly limited edition. Stay tuned.

6) The Liberty Brigade Graphic Novel – we are working on this as fast as we can – our two great pencilers – Barry Kitson and Ron Frenz – are both are plugging away and our hope is to get this to the printer in late August/early September. We are able to process and shop 500 items per day as NewKadia is handling the shipping. I expect that we will ship everything in mid-to-late September. To make up for this, we commissioned several ADDITIONAL one-page origins of the Golden Age Heroes including one by Joe Bennett who is tearing it up over at Marvel on Immortal Hulk. Joe and his studio mates have already penciled and inked their origins and they are currently out for coloring/lettering.

I know everyone would like it to be faster but we have wanted this to be the best possible item – I have been showing art almost weekly to enable everyone to see the progress – we are almost there and have learned some lessons as we think about plotting issue #2 and issue #3 which will be closer to 40 pages each to enable us to hit our deadlines. This is a massive set of books and everyone involved wants them to be GREAT.  Most delays are because we are adding pages to make this a GREAT story and GREAT product.  I really thank you all for your patience.

Showing off a page from the Encyclopedia
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jun 20, 2019 at 11:38:49 PM

Here is the National Anthem page from the Encyclopedia -- Anthem is illustrated by Chris Ivy and the panels are by Chuck Patton(pencils) and Rodney Ramos(inks).  Chuck is doing a few more panels for the Bill of Rights entry and the Mr. Freedom entry is being colored now as we had Chuck do those too.  We just want the product to be great so that is why we made sure to have some original art panels.

Enjoy

Art update and more
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Jun 14, 2019 at 02:01:29 AM

We've been showing a lot of Barry Kitson's art off so we thought we'd give a sneak of one of the Great Ron Frenz's pages -- and yes, that is Samson, the Green Lama and Hans (one of Ace Comics' villains).

Second, here is a page from Luis Rivera's bonus story -- who is this woman and where is she???? You'll have to read the graphic novel to find out.  Plus, here are Luis' two art rewards -- looking great.

And, here is a drawing of THE CLAW by new find David Q which will be part of the free .pdf story we promised for running late -- that too is being worked and we've a separate art team so we don't add a moment's delay into the graphic novel --

In terms of origins, Keith Giffen was excited by the project and has already finished his origin and it is off for inks -- Ron and Barry are plugging away and art is coming in, getting inked, getting colored, scripted, etc. every single day.
